Location (Google Maps) |
Horse
Creek Ranch is located in the Pride Valley 100 miles NW of the Alberta
Capital City (Edmonton). Just on the edge of the Sandhills Wildland Park
with beautiful scenery from the hills overlooking the valley and river.
The ranch is located 12 km east of town on a dead end road, the last 6 km
through the bush with no neighbours. The nearby village of Fort
Assiniboine is one of the oldest towns in Alberta. It is a nice community
with sport park, hockey rink, curling, and a lot of social activity. The
community has a school up to grade 12. The larger town of Barrhead is 50
km away and has all the infrastructure and services of a modern community. |
| Environment | The
Sandhills Wildland Park is 16000 acres and has lots of sandy and grass
trails. There are at least 5 different eco systems in the park, with some
rare plants. Beautiful scenery especially throughout the river valley.
Lots of wildlife: black bear, grizzly bear, moose, deer, wolf, coyote,
cougar and lynx. An excellent place to hunt or view wildlife. The Athabasca River winds through the valley with small islands up to 8 km long. The river drains from the Rocky Mountains and goes into the Mackenzie River to the Arctic Ocean. There is great fishing on this river with no restriction on the flow for canoeing or rafting. It is classed as a number 1 river, meaning waves up to 30 cm at times. |
| Improvements | The ranch
house is about 30 years old, and was renovated 6 years ago.
Horse Creek Ranch is located in a unique place, in the middle of nature. There is a well managed wildland park ''Sandhills'' as a backdrop; the Athabasca River on the other side. The open space, lakes, and forest remind you of a different world. Highway 33 is 12 km from us, a major route to the north. |
